Heat-treated martensitic stainless steel with a maximum carbon content of 0.15%, a chromium content of 12–14%, and sulphur (for better machinability) is used to make stainless steel 416HT pipes. The heat-treated (HT) version retains a moderate level of corrosion resistance while improving strength and hardness. With a moderate elongation of about 15%, these pipes have tensile strengths between 585 and 760 MPa and yield strengths between 275 and 450 MPa. These pipes are perfect for components needing high machinability, consistent mechanical performance, and tight tolerances in moderately corrosive environments because of the heat treatment, which also increases wear resistance and dimensional stability.
