A high-carbon variant of stainless steel 316, 316H heat exchanger tubing has chromium (16–18%), nickel (10–14%), molybdenum (2–3%), and carbon (0.04–0.10%). The added carbon improves creep resistance and strength at high temperatures. Other elements include sulphur (maximum 0.03%), phosphorus (maximum 0.045%), silicon (maximum 1%), and manganese (up to 2%). It has a yield strength of 30,000 psi (205 MPa) and a minimum tensile strength of 75,000 psi (515 MPa). In industrial systems, these tubes perform exceptionally well mechanically and resist corrosion, especially when subjected to extended heat exposure and thermal cycling.
