Its chemical makeup is generally composed of: Chromium (18–20%), Nickel (8–12%), Carbon (≤ 0.03%), Manganese (≤ 2%), Silicon (≤ 1%), Phosphorus (≤ 0.045%), and Sulfur (≤ 0.03%). Its mechanical properties are tensile strength of 485 MPa (min), yield strength of 170 MPa (min), and elongation of 35% (min). It has strength and toughness even at cryogenic temperatures, hence a good option for many challenging environments.
