Stainless steel tubing is mainly iron with a minimum of 10.5% chromium for improved corrosion resistance. 304 and 316 are common grades that can also contain nickel (8–10%) and molybdenum (2–3%). These add strength, heat resistance, and durability. Mechanically, stainless steel tubing provides high tensile strength (to 750 MPa), satisfactory yield strength (to 520 MPa), and very good elongation characteristics (to 40%). It also remains structurally sound at extreme temperatures and features very good formability and weldability, which qualifies it for rigorous industrial use.
